Trends in Process Design:
- Design for the Environment: Consideration for the systematic design aspect associated with environmental safety and health throughout the life cycle of products.
- Eco-Efficiency: minimize waste, pollution and depletion of natural resources.
- Industrial Ecology: design and operate industrial processes where wastes and byproducts of a plant are raw materials to other plants.
Green Engineering has as main features:
- Process (Bio)chemistry integrated to the analysis of Process Alternatives
- Predicting Products and Emissions, and identify synergies: Industrial Ecology.
- Identify key aspects that move the Environmental Impacts (metrics necessary, Sensitivity Analysis).
- Intrinsic Safety combined with inherent resiliency and controllability (Metrics Required).
- Need to couple simulation platforms to LCA tools for analysis of environmental impacts.
